1 Year Until 2010 Midterm Elections

Today is election day for many jurisdictions across the country. While most areas have only small offices up for grabs (and often times, many unopposed candidates running), there are a few key races to watch.

The Gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey, the Attorney General election in Virginia, as well as the mayoral election in New York City will no doubt be of interest.

Chris Daggett, an Independent running for Governor in New Jersey, had a chance of winning at one point, but it looks like he will wind up trailing in that election by quite a bit. the After casting his ballot this morning, Daggett had said to reporters: "I think now the voting is in the hands of the independents."

As of today, there remains one year (OK, 364 days) until the 2010 midterm elections. Many key Senate seats (and every single House seat) will be on the ballot. In fact, over a third of the seats in the Senate (36 seats to be exact) will be under the control of voters. Topping the list are none other than Barbara Boxer (D-CA), who will just days short of 70 years old; Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who as of yet, has little if any serious competition; and (lest we forget) Arlen Specter (D-PA). Other notable long-timers are Chris Dodd (D-CT; will be 67); Chuck Grassley (R-IA), who, at age 78, has been said to have lost his mainframe conservative values ; Peter Schiff, R-CT will be running against him); But (arguably, of course) the most significant Senate election will be the one concerning Harry Reid (D-NV; currently Majority Leader of the Senate). Facing polls that are tilted against him. Reid is strapped in for the ride of his life, and has reported that he is ready to run a campaign painfully negative, or in the words of one of his advisors, "vaporize" his opponents.

With the ways things are looking in Washington right now, and if tonight's Republican jackpot of sorts is any indication, a storm of colossal proportions is brewing. Now is the time to get involved -- we have a chance like never before to clean DC's slate in 2010. Back a common-sense candidate today. Set aside time to volunteer with a local campaign. And if you live in California, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, or Nevada, now is your time to shine. We must use this chance to put some young blood back in Washington!
