North Korea Must Be Taken Seriously

On Monday, North Korea all but secured plans to attack the United States. They've said they have scheduled a test of a weapon of mass destruction capable of hitting Hawaii or Alaska. (And they scheduled it for the weekend of July 4 -- a disrespectful gesture towards the US.) The missle North Korea plans to test is a called a Taep'o-dong 2 and is a supposed improvement on previous failed North Korean attempts at building missles.

The Obama administration's response to this news has not been a serious one. The Pentagon dismissed it as mere child's play. "I don't even know how to respond to that. It's silliness," said defense secretary Robert Gates. (Gates later did order a sophistocated defense system moved to Hawaii.)

North Korea has also falsely accused President Obama of aiming to start a nuclear war.

How can you not know how to respond to an international missile threat from a country that would be glad to seize and dictate the world? Regardless of the feasibility of North Korea taking over any part of North America, the threat deserves to be treated seriously.
