Top 5 Paradoxes of 2009

Happy New Year! I hope you had a good, restful Christmas - I sure did, hence my break from posting. 2009 was Send 'Em All Home's first year (1st birthday coming up in April). I thought now would be a good time to look back at a few of the top paradoxes of 2009. Last year was full of oddities, so here's a tiny list of five.

1. President Obama, during an isolated press conference during his vacation in Hawaii: "We will not rest" until the Christmas airline bombing masterminds are found. (Late December; news links)

2. President Obama, within days of signing another pork-filled omnibus bill, says "we are now taking responsibility for every dollar we spend, the same way families do" (Mid-December; link)

3. Transparency, supposed to be a huge part of healthcare reform, loses out as the healthcare bills are penned in secret by Harry Reid and others; C-SPAN is not permitted anywhere near the closed-door negotiations, breaking another key campaign promise by Barack Obama. (Ongoing; link)

3. President Obama gets the Nobel Peace Prize while preparing to send thousands of new troops to Afghanistan (October; link)

4. Unemployment rates rise despite stimulus bills (Early July; link)

5. Members of Connecticut State Legislature caught playing solitaire, and doing other leisurely things (September; link)
